Donald was from a family of 12 children and grew up in Collin County. This family farmed near Princeton TX. From this family of 6 boys and 6 girls, all of the boys served in the armed forces in WW2. There were no casualties in this family during the war, all returned safely home. Today, the family has lost only two of the twleve children to death. One by natural causes, and one by a car accident. Donald has an identical twin, Dorman, he lives in Phoenix. Donald Combest has lived in Garland since 1952. He lives alone, since the death of his wife Edna in 1999. He has 3 children and 1 stepchild.

Donald worked as a locksmith and an electronic technician for most of his life. And as a bus driver and maintenance man for the Garland Independant Schools until he retired at 65. Donald has enjoyed good health all of his life. He is still active and living on his own. He had a bit of a setback in January of 2003, when hit by a car while walking for exercise. He is doing better everyday.
