John H. Young

From John's son.

He was pretty young when he enlisted , and was on the TJ. He passed away in 1990. He was on the ship when they were kamamazied, but the japs hit all around them and didnt hit her. He was on the trip to okinawa where he claimed to have been the first ship in to drop the marines with the lst's.
He boxed on board ship and was still boxing after the war, near pittsburg where they called him kid savage. He won 63 fights no losses and all with knockouts, no tko's. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who remembered him, and if you care to e-mail me to let me know when the next reunion is I would shure enjoy being there to visit with those brave sailors who served so well. A friend indeed, John
